About SoWell4Youth
SoWell4Youth is an Erasmus+-funded project that combines sports and well-being to create positive, lasting change in the lives of young people. By empowering social sport clubs and building inclusive strategies, we aim to strengthen communities through togetherness, inclusion, and sustainability.
Community and Inclusion
We bring together youth from diverse backgrounds and create safe spaces where everyone feels seen, welcomed, and valued. Through sports and social activities, we help young people find their place in the community and build meaningful relationships with others.
Well-being Through Sport
SoWell4Youth uses sport as a powerful tool to promote both mental and physical well-being. Through pilot programs, local initiatives, and international workshops, we support young people in developing healthier habits, emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of self.
Long-Term Impact
Our goal is not just short-term engagement, but sustainable change. By collaborating with local policymakers, clubs, and community actors, we are integrating successful approaches into everyday practice and policy — creating a ripple effect that lasts beyond the project.
Why It Matters
While sport is often described as a democratic activity, access remains unequal. Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds — especially those facing poverty or low education levels — are significantly less likely to participate in organized sport.
Research highlights that youth in vulnerable situations need more than just training. They benefit from holistic, lifeworld-oriented support that combines sport with social, educational, and emotional guidance. Social sport clubs that embrace this mission can make a real difference — offering not just physical activity, but opportunity, belonging, and growth.
However, these clubs also face challenges. Staff and volunteers often support large numbers of youth with well-being needs, and there is a growing demand for better strategies, cross-sector collaboration, and professional development.
Across Europe, emerging policy initiatives are starting to recognize this. Hybrid models that combine sport, youth work, and social support are being piloted in cities like Antwerp and beyond — but more knowledge, tools, and shared learning are needed.
Looking Ahead
SoWell4Youth shines a light on these challenges — and works to turn them into opportunities. By piloting new methods, strengthening local clubs, and fostering international exchange, we are helping to shape the future of inclusive sport and youth well-being.
We believe that sport is more than a game. It’s a pathway to health, connection, and social equity. And every young person deserves a chance to play.
